13-Day Tour from Nairobi to Zanzibar
Embark on the wildlife adventure of a lifetime and meet East Africa’s most awe-inspiring animals with visits to Masai Mara, Serengeti and Ngorongoro. Private guides will take you out each day into world-class parks and get you up close and personal with lions, elephants, giraffes and other big game. Prepare your cameras as you catch glimpses of the iconic African animals that roam the expansive Serengeti during the Great Migration. A hot air balloon ride will give you a new vantage point to observe these magnificent animals. Descend into the world’s largest inactive volcanic crater, Ngorongoro Crater, where a staff of butlers springs into action to serve you a special meal on the crater floor. This extremely fertile crater floor draws some of the most elusive animals. Be on the lookout for black rhinos, packs of cheetahs and leopards. After unparalleled game viewing, unwind on Zanzibar Island. Choose to explore the historic UNESCO World Heritage Site of Stone Town, recharge with a stroll along the beach, board a wooden boat for dolphin spotting and snorkeling or simply bask in the calm ambiance of the island before you return home.

Your safari adventure begins with a meet and greet at Nairobi Airport, where a professional airport assistant welcomes you holding a sign with your name. Accompanied by your assistant, you will be guided through immigration, baggage collection and customs. This dedicated concierge service is designed to handle all airport formalities, ensuring that you can enjoy a truly stress-free airport experience. A private transfer will whisk you away to tonight’s accommodation, where you will have the opportunity to meet your HGV host.
Your morning begins with a guided safari game drive through Nairobi National Park. As the animals begin their daily activities, you’ll be in search of game sightings of local wildlife such as the white and black rhinos, giraffes, cheetahs, lions, leopards, hyenas and buffalo. Kenya’s oldest national park not only provides an abundant population of wildlife but also offers a stunning backdrop of the Nairobi skyline in the distance.
After traversing the wide-open grass plains, you’ll visit the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage. You’ll have a chance to meet the elephants as well as other endangered animals such as the black rhino. Next, stop at the historic Karen Blixen Coffee Garden Restaurant to enjoy lunch with coffee/tea while beautiful gardens and hundreds of blooming flowers surround you.
In the afternoon, visit the Giraffe Center to get up close to the tallest of the wildlife. You can even feed them with your hand. Next, continue to the Karen Blixen Museum (made famous in the film Out of Africa, starring Meryl Streep and Robert Redford). After exploring this landmark, head to Kazuri Beads, an all-women's craft workshop renowned for its handmade ceramic jewelry and pottery.
After an exhilarating first day, replenish with a relaxing meal at Tamarind Brasserie Karen, known for its local and international flavors.
Sit back and relax as your drivers transfer you to Nairobi airport for a short and scenic 45-minute flight to Masai Mara. A representative from your lodge will be waiting at the Masai Mara airstrip to take you to your superior 5-star tented accommodation. In small groups, in 4x4 vehicles with a private driver, set out on your first game drive in search of the Big Five or discover some of the region’s lesser-known animals. The Masai Mara is home to approximately 450 different species of birds, such as the fierce bateleur (or short-tailed eagle) and the musical sooty chat.
Depart early this morning for a breathtaking experience on a hot air balloon safari. As the sun rises, the balloon will float up for panoramic views of the park and sweep down, sometimes dropping to just inches above the animals and treetops. This ability to quietly ascend and descend allows for some of the most incredible views of the game and the park. Upon landing, enjoy a freshly cooked breakfast right in the middle of the game park, complete with champagne and incredible views of the pristine and natural habitat. Then, it is time to break out into small groups for your next game drive in the Masai Mara in search of the Big Five or one of the several endemic species of birds.
This morning, enjoy your last game drive in Masai Mara (time permitting). Then head to a nearby airstrip for a bush flight from Masai Mara to the Serengeti in Tanzania. An expert guide will meet you at the airstrip in Isebania (international border with Tanzania), and you’ll be transferred to the customs and immigration post to enter Tanzania. After processing, you’ll transfer to the Tarime airstrip for a second bush flight to the Serengeti. Once you land, a guide will be waiting to take you to your lodge. As you head to your lodge, your guide will take a detour to give you your first glimpse of a game drive in the Serengeti.
The Serengeti not only has a rich mix of animals, but it also has an incredible array of bird life. Take an afternoon game drive and search for the Big Five or expand your horizons to discover something different. The park is also home to 500 species of birds, such as ostriches and secretary birds: some of the most photogenic birds on the planet.
This morning, break into your small groups and venture out with private drivers for a game drive in the Serengeti. It is all but guaranteed that you will spot giraffes and elephants feasting on shrubbery, impalas, gazelles and buffaloes traipsing carefully to avoid being noticed by on-looking lions, and cheetahs and hyenas as you drive through the Serengeti National Park. A paradise for photographers and wildlife enthusiasts alike, this morning’s exploratory game drive through the Serengeti will be unforgettable. Experience the magic of the Great Migration on an afternoon game drive through Northern Serengeti, renowned for its dramatic landscapes and abundant wildlife. Follow the herds of wildebeest and zebras as they move through the stunning terrain, often shadowed by predators like lions and leopards.
Set out in the morning to explore the expanses of the Serengeti and track animals while you are taking in the natural beauty of rolling plains and acacia trees. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is renowned for its biodiversity. The well-preserved national park is the world’s most celebrated wildlife reserve and home to an abundance of animal species.
In the afternoon, explore the expanses of the Serengeti and search for the African Big Five (buffaloes, elephants, rhinos, leopards and lions). The heavy concentration of topi, gazelle and waterbuck ensures that local carnivores like cheetahs, hyenas and African wild dogs are ever present.
This morning, enjoy your last game drive in Masai Mara (time permitting) before being escorted to the Serengeti airstrip for a short 90-minute flight to Manyara. When you arrive in Manyara, your guide will drive you to Lake Eyasi for a Pick Your Experience opportunity.
Option 1: Immerse yourself in culture with a tribespeople meeting, get to know their daily lives, participate in a small game archery hunt (optional) and witness a traditional dance. After a picnic lunch, visit another local tribe and see the work of a blacksmith where spears, earrings and local silver are forged and worked on. After this full-day activity, you’ll be transferred to your lodge.
Option 2: Take a spectacular rim hike with stunning views out over the Ngorongoro Crater. Your walk will take you through gorgeous foliage, past colorful wildflowers and lush trees unique to Ngorongoro. Keep an eye out for forest birds, animals and indigenous plants. After your scenic hike, small groups can choose to take the 4x4 vehicle for a game drive, and others can return to their accommodation.
Today, immerse yourself in exploring the remarkable wildlife conservation area in Tanzania, the Ngorongoro Crater. With your tracker guide, you will set out to explore the world’s largest inactive, intact and unfilled volcanic caldera. The Ngorongoro Crater is home to some of the last remaining black rhinos, hosts large prides of lions, packs of hyenas and solitary predators like cheetahs and jackals. With the expertise of your guide, paired with a keen eye, you’ll be sure to spot a wide range of wildlife. Keep an eye out for the more elusive species like leopards, servals and bat-eared foxes.
This morning, a representative from your lodge will transfer you to the Manyara airstrip, where you’ll take a quick two-hour flight to Zanzibar. Start to unwind from your safari adventure as you reach your luxury Zanzibar beachfront resort for the remainder of the day at leisure.
