Journey to the rural town of São Brás de Alportel and the Barrocal region. Portugal is the world's largest producer of cork and São Brás de Alportel is renowned for its exclusive production. You’ll see where the cork grows, how it’s harvested, prepared and produced.
Enjoy a leisurely included lunch.
You’ll then explore another well-known Algarve agricultural tradition — olive oil. You’ll discover the history of olives, both ancient and modern, while sampling the local products.
The evening is at your leisure.
With dramatic coastlines boasting beautiful sea views, traditional fishing villages, nature preserves and scenic golf courses, choose how to explore the Algarve region with a Pick Your Experience tour.
Option 1: Visit the traditional fishing village of Olhão, with its cube-shaped and whitewashed houses, and explore Cacela Velha, a village untouched by mass tourism. Learn about the traditional fishing technique called “Almadrava” in Tavira.
Option 2: For the active traveler, enjoy a bicycle ride through the diverse ecosystem of Ria Formosa Natural Park.
Option 3: Golf enthusiasts, enjoy a round at one of the region’s scenic courses.
Morning weather permitting, cruise along the spectacular Algarve coast, famous for the rocky cliffside, hidden beaches and sea caves. Discover the iconic natural wonder known as the Benagil Caves. Unlike other caves, the Benagil Caves are bathed in light thanks to a natural skylight, allowing you to take in the beauty of the grotto.
Should weather conditions prevent a cruise along the coast, you will visit Sagres. This village, filled with nautical history, is perched along the roaring cliffside offering dramatic scenery. You’ll also visit Cabo de São Vicente (Cape St. Vincent), a dramatic headland that marks the most southwesterly point of continental Europe.
After your cruise or visit to Sagres, you will journey to Lagos. You’ll enjoy a complimentary lunch in this lively coastal town before you take a guided tour and learn about the rich maritime history of Lagos. You’ll see the statue of Henry the Navigator and other notable sites from the Age of Discovery.
Explore the lively market town of Loulé. This well-preserved medieval town is known for its Arabian-inspired covered markets, traditional crafts and tree-lined plazas. Loulé is a welcome respite from the hectic, touristy areas and offers a great opportunity to experience the vibrant local life. You’ll enjoy free time to explore on your own and peruse the stalls showcasing handcrafted items like wood carvings, lace-making and ceramics.
You’ll then head to a winery, nestled in the Algarve countryside. A local wine expert will share insight into the winemaking process. Enjoy a delicious lunch paired with a tasting of the winery’s local favorites before returning to your accommodation.
Choose how you’d like to explore the historic and culturally rich city of Faro, an often-overlooked capital of the Algarve.
Option 1: Enjoy a morning guided walking tour of the historic Old Town with stops at the Faro Cathedral and stroll along the cobblestone courtyards to admire Moorish, Gothic and Baroque architecture. Enjoy the afternoon at your leisure. Visit traditional boutiques or relax at a local café.
Option 2: Indulge at a spa with included entry. Treatments are available for purchase and can be scheduled in advance.
Option 3: Golf enthusiasts, enjoy a round at one of the region’s scenic courses.
